Near bottom of this page you will find a Golf Poster for a fun Golf Tournament in support of a local Habitat for Humanity Team travelling to Mozambique in November to build a shelter for orphans and vulnerable children there. I am a member of this team and am also including a letter to fellow retired teachers supporting our fund-raising event and offering a few more details.
Dear RTA Members:
Since 1997, I have been a passionate supporter of Habitat for Humanity projects both locally and internationally. I am presently part of a 12 member Island team travelling to Mozambique in November of this year to build with Habitat for Humanity's Mozambique Orphans and Vulnerable Children's Program. This program was developed to provide shelter for the poorest of the poor - orphaned and vulnerable children and their caretakers.
Devastated by almost three decades of civil war, several years of severe flooding, and 17% - 30% infection rates for HIV/AIDS; the country's economy is strained and one of the most aid dependant countries in the world. Mozambique's 21 million people are desperately poor with 40% living on less than $1.00 US per day and many homeless. There are 1.6 million orphans.
Each team member is responsible to raise $1910.00 for the building supplies in support of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children's program and all monies raised from this golf tournament (see Attachment) go toward the total financial commitment.
This is a fun tournament that offers teams the opportunity of a fun-filled day with friends while supporting a worthy cause. My Team invites you to participate in this extremely worthwhile endeavor. You can do this by forming a team of four players or sponsoring a team. The cost is $100.00pp/$400.00pt or $65.00 for members of Mill River Golf Club. The deadline for registration is June 30th, 2010.
