About Bujagali Village:

Accommodations are in the village of Bujagali, the sporting centre of East Africa, 8 km from Jinja and the source of The Nile River at Lake Victoria. There are always volunteers staying in Bujagali and this is a very busy village.

Beautiful Bujagali Falls is nearby where you can watch locals doing laundry, fishing, and fetching water in jerry cans that are carried on their heads. Other activities in the area include quad biking, horse safaris along the Nile, golfing, white water rafting and kayaking.

Accommodations:

Banda (cabin) accommodations are at a small campground/resort that is situated across the road from The Nile River. The small bandas have a bedroom and private bathroom with hot or cool water shower, depending on power availability. Your package includes daily breakfast in their western style restaurant. Amenities at the resort include a large garden, an open air lounge area, bar, satellite TV and pool table. Most volunteers stay here. There are a number of other western and local restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Optional luxury accommodations are available as well.

3 DAY SAFARI

MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Renowned for its scenic beauty and the spectacular falls from which it gets its name, Murchison Falls National Park has abundant flora and fauna to delight the visitor. From rolling savannah and tall grasslands to thick bush and woodlands, the diversity of this park never ceases to amaze visitors and residents alike. The falls can be viewed from the top where the Nile River narrows from 50 metres to crash through a 6 metre gorge, falling 45 metres to the rocks below. The three-hour cruise to the base of the falls is also unforgettable. One can experience the majesty of the Nile while onboard, viewing abundant wildlife along the banks.

While on the game drives, Cape buffalo, elephant, Rothschild's giraffe, Uganda kob, hartebeest and waterbuck are commonly seen. You may also spot oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, shy sitatunga, bush duiker, warthog and bushpig. Large carnivores include lion, leopard and spotted hyena. Chimpanzees and olive baboons head the list of six species of primates found in the park. Crocodile and hippo will be seen along the banks of the Nile. Some of the more common birds that can be seen include goliath heron, Egyptian geese, pelican, bee-eaters, kingfishers, hornbill, cormorant, saddle-bill stork and the rare shoebill stork.

SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1 Rhino sanctuary, Chimp trek
Begin the panoramic drive north-west through Masindi Town, with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (5 hrs). Here you will walk with a ranger to get up close to resident rhinos. Afternoon visit to Kanio Pabidi for a forest walk in search of chimpanzees and other primates. Approaching and watching these creatures in their natural habitat is a fantastic wildlife viewing experience.

Day 2 Game drive and boat safari
We rise with the sun for our early game drive. Here we hope to find lions, leopard, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, Bohor reedbuck, hyena and many more of Africa’s big game. After lunch, we take a boat safari upstream to the base of the falls, stopping just tens of metres from the "Devil's Cauldron". En-route, marvel at the toothsome hippos, crocodiles and possibly elephant, waterbuck and Uganda Kob. This is also home to many bird species like Goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork.

Day 3 Top of the falls, departure
Morning walk at the top of the falls, where you get to experience the awesome site of the whole river getting compressed through a 6 metre gap in the rocks before dropping 44 metres with a thunderous roar. It creates rainbows and plumes of spray giving opportunities for some great photographs. Return transfer to Kampala or Entebbe for your return flight home.
