Volunnteers Needed: Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Annual Meeting and Conference at the Delta in Chtown.
April 30 - May 2, 2009

Roberta Clark writes, "I volunteer in the fight against CF because my niece Shari Affleck's son Luke and other young friends have CF. From April 29 to May 2nd in 2009 we are hosting about 250 delegates to the national Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Annual Meeting and Conference at the Delta in Chtown.

"We need to get a number of volunteers to work various shifts at the registration desk handing out pkgs already prepared and answering a few touristy questions maybe, other volunteers at another desk that distributes translation headsets and a few other little jobs such as collecting meal tickets from delegates as they enter for lunch and dinner on Friday May 1 and Sat May 2nd.

"Given that this is the start of lobster fishing, etc., that narrows some family involvement. We could also benefit from assurances from any bilingual volunteers to help handle Quebecois questions.

"Do you think this is sonething you could distribute for RTA consideration. If so, I can get more specifics on the jobs and times, etc. The people working the translation desk could learn a lot about CF by overhearing the medical/science reports, etc. Please let me know if this is a reasonable request or a better way to reach your membership."

Presdient Jim MacAulay writes, "At our executive meeting we decided to post this on our website. You can have interested RTA members correspond directly with Roberta Clark. She is the principal at Fortune Consolidated School and may be reached by telephone at the school. I am copying this to Roberta so that she will be aware of the action which we authorized."

Here are the details

We will need volunteers for:

Registration Desk:
3-4 volunteers required in shifts of varying amounts of time based on anyone's availability
Delta lobby
Thursday: shifts between noon - 9:00 PM
Friday: shifts from 7:30 am - 5:00 PM

Translation Devices table inside the Edward and Island ballrooms:
4 volunteers required and this table can never be left totally unattended as people leave their credit cards or drivers' licenses in our possession to ensure return of the expensive translation headset.
Thursday, April 30: 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Friday. May 1: 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM
Saturday, May 2: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Medical/ Sci panel and reports to listen to)

Meals (collecting meal tickets at the doors): 2 volunteers per meal (Friday lunch and dinner and Saturday lunch)
Of course all volunteers will be more than welcome to join our hospitality suites each of these 3 nights upstairs at the Delta in the Elfin-Peheka rooms.

We have an organizational meeting tonight Feb 10th and I am supposed to send the national office the names of our volunteers and the times they will be available once we have them organized, hopefully before the end of February. Any assistance from RTA would be greatly appreciated. My home # is 676-2055 or email Roberta Clark.
